The Endgame
Have you understood everything? Can you use the modal verbs correctly? That's what we're going to find out with this integrated task.

What's the plan?
For this assignment you will have to explain your favourite game to a peer as well as the best tactics to play the game. You will do this orally by making a video that you will have to upload later.
What do you need to bear in mind?
- Your video should be at least 2 minutes long.
- Record your video horizontally.
- You must use these 5 types of modal verbs in your explanation.
- Expressing ability
- Expressing advice
- Expressing prohibition
- Expressing no-obligation
- Expressing obligation by circumstances
How do you do that?
STEP 1: Form pairs. Find a peer to whom you will explain the game. You will also grade this classmate later.
STEP 2: Choose which game you want to explain to a classmate. You can choose from different types of games: board games, sports, mind games ...
- Risk, Twister, Fortnite, Wordle, baseball, sudoku, Cluedo, Monopoly, chess, ...
STEP 3: Look again at the theory of the different types of modal verbs. Do you remember the ones you should use?
STEP 4: Take a look at the speaking template that you can use to convey your explanation clearly.
STEP 5: Write out your preparation based on the speaking template. This will make the recording of your video easier and more fluent.
STEP 6: Go to a free classroom in this corridor with your partner to record the video.
STEP 7: Have the evaluation sheet ready. Read the criteria on which you will have to evaluate your partner. You can find the evaluation sheet below.
STEP 8: After recording the video, rate your partner using the evaluation form. Discuss what went well and what did not.
STEP 9: Upload your video on Smartschool. Go to the upload zone, then to 'modal verbs' and click on 'integrated task'.
STEP 10: Upload the peer-evaluation on Smartschool. Go to the upload zone, then to 'modal verbs' and click on 'peer-evaluation.'
CONGRATULATIONS! You have completed the integrated task.
